Gian Diego Pini

Competition/Antitrust Lawyer at Skadden Arps and Adjunct Professor of Law, Bocconi University

Gian Diego Pini works for Skadden Arps in Brussels and serves as an adjunct professor of antitrust law at Bocconi University. He specializes in EU, international and Italian antitrust and competition law, including multi-jurisdictional cartel investigations, merger control proceedings, abuse of dominance cases and antitrust litigation.  He also advises corporations on the antitrust aspects of joint ventures and cooperation agreements, license, supply and distribution agreements, rebates, compliance programs and damages claims.

Dr. Pini graduated in law with the highest honors from Bocconi University and holds a Ph.D. in IP and Competition Law at the University of Milan.  He completed part of his studies at the ESADE University of Barcelona (as a Themis fellow) and at the University of California, Berkeley (as a visiting scholar). He is a qualified lawyer and a member of the Milan and Brussels bars.

Prior to joining Skadden, he worked for several years at an Italian and an American international law firms, and in the financial services unit of the Directorate General for Competition of the European Commission.

He publishes regularly in professional and academic journals.

Cosmina Simion

Cosmina Simion is Co-Managing Partner at Simion & Baciu.

By formation, Cosmina is an intellectual property, regulatory and technology lawyer with more than 20 years of professional experience, with expertise in various industries, with an emphasis on the media and entertainment, online and gaming industries.

Prior to setting up Simion & Baciu, Cosmina was an intellectual property partner and co-head of the gambling, consumer and advertising practices at one of the largest and oldest law firm in Romania. She combines her strong advisory expertise acquired during her coordination roles in leading law firms with the specific approach built during her in-house role (at a US group, leader in the regional media sector). Throughout her career she coordinated teams of specialists in complex licensing procedures, acquisitions and tenders.

Cosmina regularly addresses clients’ needs on data protection and privacy issues and assists them with integrating privacy-related requirements into their core businesses and internal processes, including as part of sales and marketing operations, human resources management activities, data sharing, internal controls and audits, including FCPA audits, data breach regulations and implementing digital projects.

Recognized by clients for her broad media regulatory experience, Cosmina regularly contributes to domestic and international working groups seeking to improve the business and regulatory approaches in the industries she is active in. She is a regular contributor to specialized publications and lecturer on gaming, IP, social media and digital matters and is ranked as Leading Individual by Legal 500 in the Gaming Field and Recommended in Intellectual Property and TMT.

Diana Calciu

Diana Calciu is a senior associate in the EU Regulatory & Competition law department of international business law firm GIDE. Her first hand knowledge of EU substantive law and procedures enables her to advise and represent clients on a wide variety of aspects of EU competition and internal market law ranging from digital technology, infrastructure financing, energy, state aid, antitrust, data protection.
Her current practice has a strong focus on advising large technology and e-commerce companies on how to tackle public barriers to competition. She has lodged numerous complaints on behalf of these companies in front of the European Commission and is representing some of them in front of the Court of Justice of the European Union.
She regularly advises clients on EU State Aid law – from the initial phase of interpretation of this diffuse area of law to the drafting of formal notifications to the European Commission as well as complaints relating to the award of illegal state aid – as well as EU Public Procurement law. (She recently advised a number of large multinationals on the application of EU public procurement & State aid law to large infrastructure investments.) She has also been particularly active in the field of abuse of dominant position (102 TFEU) both representing clients in the course of competition investigations in front of DG COMP (gas, electricity sectors).

Bogdan Manolea is the Executive Director of Association for Technology and Internet – ApTI Romania.

Bogdan has a legal background and a vast experience in the Law and IT&C. Author of over 150 presentations and articles on subject related to IT&C Law (e-commerce, privacy issues, domain names, Internet jurisdiction or e-government etc.) in national and international conferences.
